The rumors are true. Marjendi is happening (that’s Marc Jacobs x Fendi, we’ll have you know).
Yep, the cat’s out of the bag. On September 8, designer Marc Jacobs and Fendi womenswear creative director Kim Jones confirmed: their collab is indeed a thing. Thank you, fashion gods.
Jones and Jacobs are far from strangers, as they worked together during their respective tenures at Louis Vuitton. Jacobs even hired Jones to come on board as LV’s menswear creative director in 2011.
Reunited, the duo plan to issue a collection honoring the Fendi Baguette, which celebrates its 25th birthday this year. Jones and Jacobs’ offering will make its grand debut at the luxury maison’s New York Fashion Week presentation on September 9.
With a milestone anniversary like this, the fun doesn’t stop there. Tiffany & Co. also enters the anniversary chat with its own Fendi capsule, including a croc skin Baguette dripped in Tiffany Blue (of course).
Sarah Jessica Parker also joins the lineup, and rightfully so. After all, the bag’s prevailing “it” status is largely attributed to her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw — and the robber who stole her shimmering sequin Baguette and Manolos.
In fact, Jacobs announced his partnership with Fendi by Instagramming a photo of himself with Bradshaw’s purple sequined Baguette in hand. It was enough to make us utter that famous SATC line: “Give me your bag!”
Ultimately, Fendi is taking the Baguette back to the city that launched the bag into fashion icon-dom: NYC, baby.
